With the end of the LCS Summer Split, the competition is just getting started. The 2019 LCS Summer Playoffs will pit six of the top North American League of Legends teams against each other. They compete for a $200,000 prize pool and the title of the best team in North America. However, what teams truly aim for is the first place qualification to go to the League of Legends Worlds Main Event.
The top six teams of the 2019 LCS Summer Split include Clutch Gaming, Cloud9, Counter Logic Gaming, OpTic Gaming, Team Liquid, and Team SoloMid. Of the past three years, Team SoloMid has won two Summer Playoffs and Team Liquid took home the third.
The first matchup of the quarterfinals happens on Aug. 10. Fourth place Team SoloMid will play against fifth place Clutch Gaming of the summer standings. The second match on Aug. 11 pits third place Counter Logic Gaming versus sixth place OpTic Gaming.
The winners of these two matches will then play against Team Liquid and Cloud9 respectively. These two matches will happen the weekend after, between Aug. 17 and 18. Likewise, the victors of the semifinal matches will battle it out in the finals on Aug. 25. There will also be a third place match between the losers in the semifinals the day before.
The winner of the LCS Summer Playoffs will get one of 24 invitations to the 2019 World Championships. In total, there will be three teams sent from the North American region to the Worlds event. This year’s esports tournament will be held in Europe. The Play-Ins will be at the LEC Studio and Groups stage in Berlin, Germany at the Verti Music Hall. The quarterfinals / semifinals will be in Madrid, Spain at the Palacio Vistalegre, and the finals in Paris, France at the AccorHotels Arena.
