Astralis IEM Beijing gla1ve 100 Thieves

IEM Beijing has come to a close after Astralis have shown a fantastic stride of form once again. The Danes faced the ex-Renegades roster, 100 Thieves, which ended up being a complete blowout for the most part. Moreover, Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander has claimed his first ever MVP award by HLTV and Betway following a phenomenal outing at the event.

Astralis hungry for the throne

Evil Geniuses had taken away the #1 on HLTV’s top 30 ranking. Following this event, it’s very likely that Astralis will sit on the top again.

It had been a while since the Danish powerhouse has won an event. In fact, Astralis’ last win was all the way back at the StarLadder Major in Berlin. Since then, they have failed to carry over momentum at four LAN events. Now, Astralis have finally gone back to their winning ways of 2018 with a stupendous win over 100 Thieves.

The best-of-five final at IEM Beijing lasted for a much shorter time than expected. While the first map, Vertigo, was a close call as the Danes edged out 100 Thieves just 16-14, the following two maps, Nuke and Train, were completely one-sided encounters. With gla1ve sitting right at the top of the overall final scoreboard and device just behind him, Astralis won on Nuke 16-5 and Train 16-3 to close out the final in rapid fashion 3-0.

Despite the disappointing finale, the 100 Thieves roster impressed by getting all the way to the final. The ex-Renegades roster is yet to see a LAN victory this year, but perhaps they are on the right path to achieving that feat.

gla1ve finally receives an MVP award

The Astralis in-game leader, gla1ve, was ranked among the top 10 players of 2018. Despite that, the MVP award after IEM Beijing is his first ever. He averaged an incredible 1.48 2.0 rating over nine maps, a rating much higher than average. The award is definitely well deserved by the Dane.
