Earlier today, news broke that Magic: The Gathering would be pushing on with their upcoming Netflix show. Today’s news also brought a lot of fans the information that the Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo will serve as executive producers for the show. The announcement of these legendary directors providing direction to the upcoming project excites many fans.
The Russos have been Magic: The Gathering fans and players since the beginning. They explained that they were extremely excited to work on the series and wanted to really bring the stories to life. Their success with Avengers: Endgame puts them as a pair of the best producers in TV and cinema. Knowing that these titans will be on the team behind this series is huge for a lot of fans.
While the Russos gave no information about the release date or show details, many have speculated that fans may witness a full retelling of the War of the Spark story through animation. Players who enjoy the lore of Magic found disappointment in the War of the Spark: Ravnica novel. The book, written by Greg Weisman, released in late April in tandem with the set. Players gave the novel scathing reviews, calling it unreadable and mediocre. So this series could be a second attempt to tell that tale.
Whatever the case, the Magic: The Gathering Netflix series will be under a lot of scrutiny when it releases. Thankfully, Mike Larocca and Isaac Krauss will join the Russos in producing while Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina will write for the show.
Finally, it was announced that Yoriaki Mochizuki holds the title of supervising director. Octopie Network will oversee the production while Bardel Entertainment handles the animation. On top of all of these big names, Tod Makurath, Eric Calderon, and Dave Newberg will serve as producers as well.
