If you were ever on the fence about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, now is your chance to try out the intense battle royale mode that is new to the Call of Duty series. In a matter of days, Treyarch will offer a free opportunity to go hands-on with Blackout.
The trial will commence two days from now, on Jan. 17. Also, it will be available on all platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Participants will have a full week to enjoy the mode as the trial period ends on the 24th. That is plenty of time to sink your teeth into Blackout and decide whether it is right for you.

The Blackout mode effectively replaced the single-player campaign in Black Ops 4 that franchise fans are familiar with. But if you’re one who is drawn to the popular battle royale competition of Fortnite or PUBG, you might welcome the change.
Back in October, we reviewed Blackout separately from the rest of the game, ultimately giving it a score of 9.5/10. The expansive map, the refreshing first-person take on the battle royale scene, and the tight, quality controls that Call of Duty is known for coalesced to make a solid competitive gaming experience. Treyarch is constantly reviewing and refining the gameplay as they add different elements, timed events, and seasonal drops to Blackout. And be sure to mark Thursday on your calendar! A free trial costs you nothing but your time, and it is worthwhile to see if Treyarch earned your hard-earned dollars for the long run.
If you have been in the thick of it, smackin’ down zombies to get the best goods and dominating the scores of other players in Blackout, let us know your thoughts on the experience in the comments section below.
Accountant by day, video games enthusiast by night. Somewhere in between all of that, I’m a husband, dad, and generally a giant man-child, too. If a game is all about action, there’s a safe bet I’m playing it. I started laying waste to virtual worlds as a youngin’ on the ol’ Atari and haven’t stopped since.
