Last week, news of another wave of exclusivity benefits for PlayStation users rocked the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community. After already receiving the Zombies Onslaught mode, Activision and Sony stepped it up to a whole new level. PlayStation 4+5 players are now going to unlock extra loadout slots and Double XP events. In the past, this exclusivity deal has been fairly minor, with the only real benefit being early access to DLC. However, now the publishers are affecting gameplay and it’s safe to say the fans aren’t happy.

PlayStation players reap more rewards in Black Ops Cold War

Starting in 2015, this deal between Sony and Activision has seen PlayStation receive every benefit that’s come Call of Duty‘s way. There’s really been no exclusive reward for Xbox or PC players since the deal was struck. PlayStation received DLC first and even unlocked a Spec Ops mode in Modern Warfare last year.

However, for Black Ops Cold War, some feel Activision and Sony went too far. Of course, for the most part, this feeling is shared by the Xbox and PC community. Although, there are some within the PlayStation fandom that believe they’re receiving unfair rewards.

One fan even felt so passionately that they posted a long statement bashing Activision on Reddit.

‘2 Extra Create A Class Loadouts’ ONLY for PlayStation players is blatantly anti-consumer to PC and Xbox. from blackopscoldwar

It seems that the extra Create-A-Class loadouts are what really has the community talking. Simply for playing on PlayStation, you will receive an extra two loadout slots in Black Ops Cold War. These slots are highly coveted, as they allow you more freedom when creating classes.

Within the gaming industry, a deal of this nature isn’t too common. Game publishers rarely hand out exclusive content to one platform and one platform alone. Fortnite, for example, has more PlayStation rewards, but there have also been some for Xbox as well.

The community was already tired of this deal with Sony, but now the feeling is more anger than anything. Call of Duty is in a great spot right now with Warzone‘s success and Black Ops Cold War‘s hype. However, if Activision keeps making decisions that further alienate parts of the player base, other games will begin to fracture the community even more.
