Blizzard’s esports mobile app now available on Android and iOS

Blizzard has released a new, official esports mobile app for Android and iOS devices. With it, esports fans can stay up-to-date on scores, schedules, the latest information, and more for Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch, StarCraft, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft esports. Overwatch League has a separate Blizzard app, but you can get that app as well if that’s your game.

This Blizzard app is very new, and we certainly don’t know if it’s any good yet. At this moment, only a few hundred people have downloaded it on Android, and there are only a few five-star reviews with no comments. This is the kind of esports app you need to test over time, though, so that’s not necessarily a downside. From a first glance, it looks like it’s going to do everything it promises.

All of Blizzard’s esports titles in one place

All of Blizzard’s games are available in one place, and they are easily sortable. You can choose to follow the games you are interested in, and whether you want scores to be hidden or not, which is a feature I appreciate. You can also choose whether you want notifications for live events and for esports announcements. Push notifications for upcoming matches are also a feature, though they’re a feature I’ve not tested. I’ve set up a push notification for tomorrow, since BlizzCon is happening right now. I’m going to give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt for now and assume they did a good job.

Blizzard is welcoming feedback as they expand the scope of this new esports app in the coming months. This is something I always appreciate from a company. Their in-app feedback function is clearly accessible, meaning it will be easy to let them know about any positives – or negatives – as they come up.

I’ll be interested to see how useful I find this Blizzard mobile app both during BlizzCon and after it ends, and to hear what you think. Is this an app you’re going to get?
