Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches Oct. 25, watch the reveal trailer

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare October 25 from Infinity Ward / Activision

At long last, the wait is finally over. In a trailer posted on all Call of Duty social media channels, Modern Warfare is officially confirmed for 2019. It releases on October 25 and will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The rumors leading up to this reveal veered off in every direction. No one quite knew what to expect from developer Infinity Ward. But we now know that for 2019’s rendition of Modern Warfare, players will experience a whole new story. This isn’t a prequel or sequel to the 2007 original; it’s an entirely new game and story.

Here’s everything we know so far about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

A reboot of a classic franchise

Many fans were expecting a return to the Modern Warfare franchise. All the signs pointed to this being the case, and it simply made sense. Although, very few saw this game as a new story altogether.

However, even though it’s a new story, most of the beloved characters from the originals are back. Captain Price made a cameo with his signature cigar in the reveal trailer.

It’s clear Activision and Infinity Ward are going all-out for this Campaign. The graphics look top of the line and the story promises to be intense. According to multiple outlets who got the chance to see the game early, Modern Warfare 2‘s infamous “No Russian” mission has nothing on what this title has in store.

We should be seeing more of these Campaign missions at E3 in a couple of weeks. The conference starts on June 11 and ends on June 13.

No Season Pass this time around

Coming from the same outlets who visited Infinity Ward early, there is apparently no Season Pass for Modern Warfare. In years past, this Season Pass has been worth around $50, which is almost the base price of the game itself. With the Pass, players got access to “free” maps and other DLC.

However, Activision might finally be seeing the error of its ways. They have decided to ditch this model and go for a more consumer-friendly one. Without a Season Pass, they will be able to offer more actual free maps and extra DLC.

Cross-play confirmed, new engine used

One of the major features Call of Duty fans have been asking for is cross-platform play. This enables PS4, Xbox, and PC players to coalesce in the same lobby. However, no developer has ever had the ability to make it happen — until now.

Confirmed by Activision, Modern Warfare will feature cross-platform play. This will make it so any player can play with any person on another platform. Infinity Ward supposedly pulled this off by constructing a new engine for Modern Warfare.

While the old engine for Call of Duty was modified countless times, it was still the same old engine. Now, however, a new engine allows Infinity Ward to bring ultra-realism to the game along with a plethora of other features.

There will be more disclosed about this engine when E3 rolls around. We also presume some multiplayer details will be unveiled as well.

That’s all the major information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare available at this time! We will keep you updated with any more developments if they come along.
