Collegiate StarLeague announces support for MTG Arena

The Collegiate StarLeague has announced that it will support Magic: The Gathering Arena in its existing collegiate esports leagues. The CSL started off as one of the first collegiate gaming organizations and currently supports over 1800 universities. Over 55,000 players compete in its leagues, which award players with scholarship money. With this announcement, players can now compete in MTG Arena while also pursuing their education.

Collegiate StarLeague reveal

As well as showcasing the altered logo, colors, and more in the league’s rebrand announcement video, the Collegiate StarLeague has also revealed its wide range of titles. The current titles include League of Legends, Fortnite, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Rocket League, Overwatch, and Hearthstone.

In addition, new titles like Gears 5, Street Fighter V, and MTG Arena are now supported. There are also esports leagues for games like NBA 2K, NHL, Madden, and StarCraft II. The Collegiate StarLeague has just opened up registration for the 2019 – 2020 school year and will close it off on Oct 13. With $400,000 in scholarship prize money up for grabs this year, the competition will be fierce.

MTG: Arena’s addition

The addition of Magic: The Gathering Arena means the creation of a $50,000 prize pool esports league. Registration is completely free for anyone currently attending a college. Players will need a team of three to register, and teams will compete in best of three matches against other collegiate teams. The matches will take place over sixteen weeks and be sectioned off into different regions.

The finalist teams will then take part in the Collegiate StarLeague Grand Finals in April of 2020. The winners will qualify for an MTG Arena exhibition match against the United Kingdom counterparts. The CSL will stream all of the top matches on its Twitch channel, along with detailed deck analyses, player profiles, and interviews.
