The Call of Duty League is in the latter half of its inaugural season, but next year is already being discussed. While the CDL hasn’t seen huge numbers, it’s still been fairly popular with the existing fan base. So, though some aspects need to change in 2021, a season two is almost certainly happening. This is mainly confirmed by a team owner in a recent interview. Rise Nation, a previously prominent organization in Call of Duty, saw its founder give a telling interview about next season of the CDL.

Rise Nation could enter Call of Duty again

During the World War II CWL season, Rise Nation was arguably the most successful squad. They consistently placed well and won a handful of tournaments. However, this success was short-lived after the organization stepped out of Call of Duty for Black Ops 4. Of course, they also did not bid for a spot in this year’s Call of Duty League.

Although, this absence may be coming to an end. Rise Nation founder Kahreem Horsley recently talked with ESPN about the future for the team in regards to the CDL. Here’s a short snippet from the interview where Horsley talks about Call of Duty:

“We do want to move on Call of Duty, as far as the CDL goes. We’ve had talks with them (Activision), dating back to last year and as recently as a few months. We’re just getting our marbles all in the right basket so we can take aim at securing a spot for that league specifically.”

From the sounds of it, Rise Nation is aiming to be the league’s first expansion team. We’ve seen a process play out in the Overwatch League, and presumably the CDL would adopt the same process. Activision sounds open to the idea of more organizations joining the CDL if the company is talking to Rise Nation as recently as a few months ago.

Assuming this is something Activision wants to do, we shouldn’t expect an announcement until after the 2020 season concludes. However, this is certainly a story to keep an eye on as more organizations could vie for the expansion spot.
