CSGO March 13 update: AUG nerf, Prisma Case, and loss bonus changes

The newest update to CSGO is the biggest we’ve seen in a while. Many peoples’ prayers have been answered about nerfing the AUG. But Valve has also taken this opportunity to introduce a brand new case with sweet skins as well as a substantial change to the loss bonus system.

AUG gets nerfed (kind of)

After the price reduction of the AUG and SG553, pros and regular players alike have noticed just how powerful the AUG can be. It has since been requested by many pros to nerf the AUG somehow. Nikola “Niko” Kovač has been especially vocal on Twitter about the AUG. Valve has finally listened to the community and bumped up the price to the original $3,300. This means that the price difference between an M4 and an AUG is yet again $200, the price of a flashbang.

Apart from the price tweak, however, the AUG’s stats remain the same. Will this make the AUG less prevalent in the game? We’ll just have to wait and see. You can check out our interviews with some of the pros and their thoughts on the AUG to find out more.

New skins arrive with the Prisma Case

What better time to add a fresh new set of skins than after the IEM Katowice Major and an AUG price bump? With this update, Valve has also introduced a new case with a multitude of community skins. With the Prisma Case, skin collectors can get their hands on a brand new AUG, M4A4, AK-47, or even AWP.

Additionally, the newest set of knives can be dropped from the Prisma Case in Chroma color patterns.

CSGO’s loss bonus system gets a twist

The loss bonus system has been changed in an interesting way in the newest update. Here is a short description taken from the official CSGO blog on how it has been changed:

  • Round loss bonuses are now based on the count of a team’s round losses. The count increases by one after every loss, and decreases by one after every win (minimum 0).
    • 0 Losses: $1400
    • 1 Loss: $1900
    • 2 Losses: $2400
    • 3 Losses: $2900
    • 4+ Losses: $3400
  • Previously, a win would reset the round loss bonus completely. Now, a win simply reduces the loss counter by one.

This means that teams losing heavily are not punished as much for losing a round. It’s a huge change to the system. It basically deletes the notion of “getting reset” from the CSGO vocabulary as now losing a round while recovering from a losing streak won’t have as big of a financial toll as before. It will be interesting to see what the pros of the scene will have to say about that change.
