Dabuz wins Smash 4 Singles at Super Smash Con 2019

Smash Con Smash 4 | Dabuz wins Smash 4 Singles at Super Smash Con 2019

Samuel “Dabuz” Buzby won Smash 4 Singles at Super Smash Con 2019. The tournament had 462 entrants. It was the first major Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament since the release of Smash Ultimate last December.

Dabuz convincingly swept through the first part of the Smash Con Smash 4 bracket. He earned wins over the likes of Kamaran “Kam Steele” McClanahan, Esaul “SirPro” Anzaldo, and AZ Amerkhail. Dabuz continued into top 8 with a 3-0 win over Matt “Elegant” Fitzpatrick in Winners Quarters.

Dabuz made his way through top 8 with little opposition. No one he faced was able to take more than a game off of his Rosalina. As a result, Dabuz placed 1st with wins over Jesse “Sells” Tranum, Jestise “MVD” Negron, and Tyler “Tyroy” Awdisho.

Interestingly, Dabuz’s success in Smash Con Smash 4 Singles did not carry over into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Dabuz placed a disappointing 49th in Smash Ultimate Singles at Super Smash Con 2019. This came after upset losses to Raffi “Raffi-X” Azar and Michael “Riddles” Kim.

Other results from Smash Con Smash 4

Super Smash Con’s Smash 4 bracket looked quite a bit different than originally expected. This is because of the high quantity of top player DQs. Several players dropped out from Smash 4 in order to focus on Ultimate: Leonardo “MkLeo” Perez, Rasheen “Dark Wizzy” Rose, Saleem “Salem” Young, Jason “ANTi” Bates, Ramin “Mr. R” Delshad, Jude “Jakal” Harris, Nicholas “Ned” Dovel, and Spencer “BestNess” Garner.

The Smash 4 bracket at Super Smash Con was also altered by significant upsets. Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada was sent to the losers bracket by Tyler “Mage” Lee. Nairo later dropped out of the bracket. Carrington “Wrath” Osborne also suffered an early loss at the hands of Liam “Phantom” Giannico.

Unsurprisingly, a Bayonetta main made it to Grand Finals in Smash 4. Tyroy made a strong losers run after losing to Tamim “tamim” Omary. He beat “IcyMist”, Landon “Captain L” Trybuch, Sells, tamim, and MVD. Tyroy ultimately finished in a respectable 2nd place.

Mii Brawler main Sells made an unexpected run to top 8 of Smash 4 Singles. He got wins over Benjamin “Barking_Frog” Kelm, Laith “Secret” Hamdan, and Ralph “Ralphie” Laurea en route to 5th place. This success extended into Smash Ultimate, where Sells used Bowser to get a win over Mr. R.

BestNess and Elegant won Super Smash Con Smash 4 Doubles. After a loss in Winners Semis, they went on a solid losers run. They defeated Yuki “Etsuji” Kajihara & ANTi, Samantha “sam” May & IcyMist, Dark Wizzy & tamim, and MkLeo & Javier “Javi” Balderas.
