DrLupo and GRiZ raise over $18K during charity Fortnite Twitch steam

There seems to be a new trend in charity streaming events. This past week DrLupo teamed up with electronic music producer GRiZ to raise funds for The Trevor Project. Usually music and esports don’t intersect, but in the last year we have seen the two begin to intertwine, such as with Marshmello’s highly successful in-game Fortnite concert. Monday’s four-hour Fortnite Twitch stream saw the duo raise over $18,000 USD for The Trevor Project. DrLupo is one of the most famous Fortnite players in the world, so this was sure to attract attention. To check out what you missed, head on over to GRiZ’s Twitch channel.

What is The Trevor Project?

It is the largest organization in the world dedicated to suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ+ youth. All their support is completely free and confidential. They have a 24/7 phone line, chat, and text. They also plan to integrate their support into social media platforms as well.

It was an extremely successful stream bringing in about 280,000 viewers at its peak. It also, of course, raised funds for such an important cause. They weren’t just raising money during the stream. Viewers were entering raffles to win prizes such as an AKRacing gaming chair, 2,000 V-bucks, and a variety of premium GRiZ and DrLupo merchandise. Not too shabby.

DrLupo on his involvement

DrLupo said, “I’m excited to work together with someone of GRiZ’s caliber. Supporting a cause like the Trevor Project with him, while playing Fortnite (and hopefully getting carried) is going to be a ton of fun! Gaming does good, and an event like this will show that.”

DrLupo is no stranger to raising money for charities. In the past few years he has raised over $3 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His reach is massive with approximately 1.3 million followers on Twitter. I truly love seeing more and more of the positive side of esports like this, giving back to the community. At the end of the day, that is the most important thing.
