Valens joins Evil Geniuses

“My childhood was full of memories of EG paving the way for the future of esports. Beyond excited to keep leading by example… I’m EG Ready,” said Soham Chowdhury in a statement. The former professional player competed for teams like LunatiK Esports, Denial Esports, Nihilum Gaming, Maximum Effort, and Complexity Gaming between 2014 and 2015. His first coaching position was with Team SoloMid, before joining Cloud9 as a coach in 2017. Valens then alternated between the roles of Coach and Analyst.

The Stanford graduate helped Cloud9 during its ELEAGUE Boston Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major win in 2018, before now joining Evil Geniuses in an analyst position. In his new position, Valens will reunite with Tarik “tarik” Celik, whom he worked with during that stint. Evil Geniuses entered CSGO with their recent acquisition of the NRG Esports roster, which included players Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz, Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte, Cvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov, Ethan “Ethan” Arnold, and Tarik “tarik” Celik. Chet “ImAPet” Singh is the coach of the roster.

Recent performance

After departing the scene in 2012, the new Evil Geniuses roster has taken first-place finishes at ESL One: New York, Season 3 of the North America Esports Championship Series, and Season 8 of the StarSeries & i-League tournament. However, even with the team at #1 in the World Rankings, the roster lost to #9 ranked FaZe Clan at Intel Extreme Masters XIV Beijing.
