Shown in a loading screen, Fortnite's Visitor is depicted alongside the rocket

Fortnite fans, prepare for take-off. The mysterious rocket, located within the villainous lair on the left-side of the island, is launching today. Posted via an in-game message, Epic Games announced the event will occur at 10:30 a.m. PT. More importantly, the studio confirmed that this event will only occur once. This is not a drill. If you want to see the results after weeks of waiting through cryptic teasers, there’s only one chance to see it live.

Epic Games shared an in-game message revealing the time of Fortnite's rocket launch

The journey to Fortnite’s Season 4 rocket launch

Season 4 of Fortnite is nearing its conclusion and is scheduled to end on July 12. Today’s event is the culmination of weeks of waiting as the developers slowly built upon their theme of heroes and villains. Throughout the past few months, the game received various updates hinting at some large-scale event. This began with the construction of a facility in the remains of Dusty Depot, now Dusty Divot. At first, players noticed a mysterious landing pod in the center of the location. A few weeks ago, as players completed their “Blockbuster” Battle Pass challenges, this pod was revealed to be the landing place of The Visitor. Since then, an ominous message appeared on televisions in-game. Once simply displaying static, the screens changed to reveal a red skull. Shortly thereafter, a count-down timer appeared. Now, players can hear sirens periodically piercing the airwaves in-game.

Clearly, something big is going to happen. One popular fan theory is that the rocket will destroy Moisty Mire, an area which Epic is rumored to want to change. If this does occur, the event would echo the destruction of Dusty Depot, which was struck by a meteor at the end of last season. Another possibility is that the rocket will strike the mansion on the right-hand side of the map. As this location is the stronghold of this season’s heroes, it would fit the theme of Season 4 well.

Of course, this is all speculation, and the real show is later today. Unsurprisingly, the Internet is abuzz with excitement for the launch, with some players even calling for a momentary armistice. Fortunately, if you’re unable to see the event live, you can visit our page to see a video post immediately afterward.
