Fortnite Season X: Out of Time has arrived and changes the game in more ways than ever. After a prolonged Season 9, players have a plethora of new gameplay changes and cosmetic unlocks to discover with Season X, including the return of the Tactical SMG and the introduction of the B.R.U.T.E.
Along with the new season also comes a new Battle Pass. Make sure to check out our in-depth look at every reward on Season X’s Battle Pass. As is customary with any major update, Fortnite has released patch notes that reflect all of the changes. Let’s take a peek at those patch notes and see everything that changed with the launch of the tenth season in Fortnite.
Fortnite Season X v10.00 patch notes
B.R.U.T.E Mech Suit
If you randomly jumped into a Fortnite match without reading the patch notes, the first thing you probably noticed is the huge mech suits scattered across the map. These hulking robots are the new B.R.U.T.E vehicles.
Holding up to two players, this vehicle is found in various spots around the island. If there are two players operating the suit, one controls movement and the other controls the weapons system. Here’s a snippet from the patch notes about the B.R.U.T.E:
- The driver is able to:
- Dash into combat.
- Super Jump to victory.
- Stomp enemies and structures into the ground.
- Anything you would normally harvest will grant materials when destroyed.
- The passenger has two weapons at their disposal: a shotgun and a missile launcher.
- Clip Size: 10
- Damage: 50
- Headshot Multiplier: 1.5x
- Missile Launcher
- Fires up to 10 missiles at once.
- Holding down Trigger will begin loading missiles.
- After releasing Trigger, or after 10 missiles have been loaded, all missiles will automatically fire.
- New Mechanic: Overshield
- Consumes 200 of any Material type to create a personal overshield for 5 seconds to protect you in the mech.
Epic Games seems to want to create their own meta with the introduction of this vehicle. Only time will tell how this affects the overall state of Fortnite.
With every new season launch, there comes the Vaulted Items list. These are the items that Epic Games felt weren’t pertinent to the new season. Here’s the list of Season X’s Vaulted Items:
- Quad Crasher
- Flint Knock Pistol
- Shadow Bomb
- Semi-Auto Sniper
- Tactical Assault Rifle
- Mounted Turret
- Air Strike
- Itemized Glider Redeploy (still available in large team modes)
As you can clearly see above, Epic Games wants Season X to be less mobile than previous seasons. Vaulting four separate mobility-related items is not a coincidence, and in the patch notes, they stated that Season X feels better without an overflowing amount of mobility.
However, while the Vaulted List is somewhat surprising, the Unvaulted List is equally exciting. The long-awaited return of the Tactical SMG is here and comes with a new rarity this time around. As seen in the Story Trailer for Season X, the Tactical SMG now comes in Legendary rarity.

Season X map changes
Something that has become synonymous with new Fortnite seasons is map changes. Since the meteor struck in Season 4, the map has been altered in some way with every season’s launch. However, in Season X, Epic decided to return some fan-favorite locations.
Opting for a more traditional map landscape, Fortnite returned both Dusty Depot and the factories that are adjacent to it. The reveal of this in the teaser images sparked widespread excitement among the community.
Even though the return of Dusty is exciting, there are a few other map changes. The meteor that originally hit Dusty Depot and turned it into Dusty Divot is now floating above the center of the map. You’re able to land here if you desire, as there is some decent loot scattered around the surface of the meteor.
There are also now Rift Zones, which turn old, lost locations into something else entirely. Some data-miners have discovered file images hinting towards a Wild West version of Tilted Towers, so we’ll have to wait and see what Epic has in store.
That’s all of the major changes in the patch notes for Season X! Make sure to stay tuned to Daily Esports for all Fortnite Season X coverage.
