G2 Esports may be replacing shox and Lucky

Berlin-based esports organization G2 Esports may reportedly make changes to its current Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster. According to a French report, Richard “shox” Papillon and Lucas “Lucky” Chastang could be replaced after a disappointing result in the New Challengers Stage at the most recent StarLadder Berlin Major. The report lists Nemanja “nexa” Isaković and Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač as possible replacements for the two players.

G2 Esports is considered #7 on the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive World Ranking as of Sept 2. However, the team was knocked out in the New Challengers Stage in the StarLadder Berlin Major. They could have made it into the Champions Stage, if not for their losses to AVANGAR and Renegades. Even so, the organization still earned a spot to the Spring 2020 CSGO Major with their 9 – 11th placing.

The teams that were defeated in the same round alongside G2 Esports include German esports organizations #9 mousesports and #13 CR4ZY. G2’s current roster consists of in-game leader Richard “shox” Papillon, Kenny “kennyS” Schrub, Lucas “Lucky” Chastang, Audric “JaCkz” Jug, and François “AmaNEk” Delaunay. Damien “maLeK” Marcel serves as the G2 Esports CSGO roster’s coach.

In 2019, the organization achieved a 3rd place finish at the World Electronic Sports Games tournament, 1st place at 2019’s Good Game League, 2nd at Season 9 of the ESL Pro League Finals, and 1st at the ESL One: New York European qualifiers. However, the roster only managed a 12 – 14th finish at 2019’s Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Katowice Major, along with 5 – 6th placing at DreamHack Masters Dallas and Intel Extreme Masters XIV – Chicago.

This report by the French publication also ties into an alleged report by CR4ZY CEO Antonio Meic, who claimed G2 Esports made contact with nexa and huNter-. With a disappointing finish to the StarLadder Berlin Major, the report that the organization may replace shox and Lucky isn’t unbelievable. At the same time, acquiring nexa and huNter- from their existing contracts would mean a high buyout price.
