League of Legends European Championship Fnatic, G2 and four other teams locked in for LEC Spring Playoffs

After game week eight, six League of Legends European Championship (LEC) teams such as G2 Esports and Fnatic have secured their spot for spring playoffs. The 2020 Spring Split returned in an online format after the hiatus imposed by the coronavirus outbreak. All teams and casters performed their jobs away from the LEC Studio in Berlin. Although there were a few technical issues, all games were completed for the game week.

G2 and Fnatic aside, who else made playoffs?

After G2 Esports and Fnatic in first and second place respectively in the LEC, Origen, Mad Lions, Rogue, and Misfits also qualified for playoffs. G2’s qualification for playoffs was certain as they only needed one win in game week eight to make playoffs. They defeated Rogue in a dominant fashion with 22 kills and a 9,000-gold lead. Fnatic also secured their Spring Playoffs spot on the first day of the week. G2, Origen, and Fnatic all secured a guaranteed top-four finish with just one week left in the split.

On the second day of the game week, new boys Mad Lions secured the fourth playoff spot after an impressive display against Misfits. G2’s win against Excel in turn crashed Excel’s hope at playoffs. The G2 win helped Rogue and Misfits secure the last two playoff spots with both teams on a 9-7 record. Excel’s defeat also means they join the likes of Schalke, SK Gaming, and Vitality at the bottom side of the table.
