Gareth Bale announces Ellevens Esports

Real Madrid and Wales star Gareth Bale announced on Twitter he is venturing into esports with his new organization: Ellevens Esports. Based on his own back number 11, the organization started its adventure back in November 2019 with a FIFA team. Bale, however, did not officially reveal it himself until today.

Gareth Bale’s Ellevens aims to enter a variety of games

While Ellevens only sports a FIFA team for the moment, the organization has called upon players and content creators to register on the official website. Here, they can choose from a list including FIFA, Fortnite, Rocket League, League of Legends, CSGO, Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty, Overwatch, DOTA, Apex Legends, Street Fighter, and PUBG. Whether all of these will be covered is another matter, but it looks like Ellevens aims to become a large-scale organization.

For now, the organization’s Twitter banner highlights three titles: CSGO, FIFA, and Rocket League. Whether this means these games are their main focus in the early days remains to be seen.

Athletes and clubs entering esports

An esports organization set up by a professional athlete is nothing new. This announcement comes shortly after FC Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann revealed his own Grizi Esports, and many other high-profile sports clubs have professional esports teams. Many European football clubs play in FIFA tournaments, while clubs like FC Barcelona, AS Monaco, and PSG have branched into Rocket League as well.

Clubs and athletes entering the world of esports has become more and more common. The growth of esports is not going unnoticed, and large icons like Bale will help bridge the gap between traditional sports and esports. Older generations are naturally still skeptical, but younger fans are quicker to embrace the idea, especially when their idols are promoting it.

All we have to do now is wait for Real Madrid to face off against the Ellevens in the next tournament! Then we can see the Madrid fans’ brains work overtime when they have to choose who to support. Which game do you hope Ellevens will sign a team for? Let us know in the comments below.
