Guangzhou Charge renew contracts

The owner of the Chinese Basketball Association’s Guangzhou Loong Lions, Nenking Group, owns the Charge as well, and they most recently released Strategic Coach Rohit “CurryShot” Nathani and Competitive Manager Brenda “bsuh” Suh. These two coaching staff members have since joined the Los Angeles Gladiators. However, the Guangzhou Charge has not made any roster changes to its players, unlike many of the other Overwatch League teams.

Support Kim “Chara” Jungyeon, tank Oh “Rio” Seungpyo, and DPS players Ou “Eileen” Yiliang and Charlie “Nero” Zwarg have already been locked in. On the other hand, those on the roster like tank Joona “fragi” Laine, Hyungseok “Bischu” ‘Aaron’ Kim, and Hongjun “HOTBA” Choi are listed as free agents on the Overwatch League website.

Keeping the same roster?

The Charge placed 9th during Season 2 of the Overwatch League. After a loss to the Seoul Dynasty, the team tied with the Shanghai Dragons for a 9 – 10th place finish in the Playoffs. With the transition to a home and away game system for the 2020 Overwatch League, keeping the same roster may be a good choice. The already existing relationships and experience with an organization’s inner workings means players will not need time to adjust to the environment.

The Guangzhou Charge will need to have at least eight players signed by Nov. 15, to follow Overwatch League rules. The team had 11 players during the last season and currently has six locked in.
