Two days ago, Blizzard tweeted a hint towards a new upcoming hero in Heroes of the Storm.
The upcoming hero is called Mal’Ganis – a well-known character to fans of the Warcraft universe.
Mal’Ganis first appeared in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, during the Human Campaign, and was responsible for the plague that infected the grains in the city of Stratholme. Mal’Ganis goaded Arthas to follow him to Stratholme, leaving him with the choice of either slaughtering all citizens or watch them fall to the plague of undeath. In answer to this, Arthas purged the city of Stratholme. The moment Arthas took up Frostmourne he became a tool of the Lich King, completely subservient to his will. This was what Mal’Ganis had planned all along. Confidently he approached Arthas and informed him of his fate. However, the manipulative and traitorous dread lord was himself betrayed, as the Lich King’s first whispers to Arthas were that the time for his vengeance had come. All these events were registered in World of Warcraft in the dungeon called The Culling of Stratholme, where Mal’Ganis is the final boss.
Mal’Ganis heals for 45% of damage dealt to enemy Heroes and 15% of damage dealt to non-heroic units.
Violently slash in the chosen direction, dealing 72 damage to nearby enemies. Reactivate to slash up to two more times. The third slash stuns enemies for 0.75 seconds. Due to its forward momentum, Fel Claws can serve as an initiation tool, or a last-minute escape.
Desecrate the air, dealing 110 damage to nearby enemies and gaining 25 Armor for 3 seconds. Combined with Vampiric Touch, Necrotic Embrace can offer a significant burst heal if multiple enemy heroes are hit at the same time.
After 0.75 seconds, gain 50% Movement Speed for two seconds. While active, Mal’Ganis can move through enemy Heroes and put them to Sleep for 2.5 seconds. Night Rush is particularly useful after a successful third hit from Fel Claws or as a surprising crowd control from a flanking position.
After one second, disperse into an Invulnerable swarm of bats for three seconds, dealing 132 damage per second to enemies. Vampiric Touch heals for 100% of Carrion Swarm’s damage to Heroes.
Channel on an enemy Hero for 0.75 seconds, then swap Health percentages with the target over three seconds. If properly executed, Dark Conversion can save Mal’Ganis from certain death or set his opponent up for an easy finish.
Mal’Ganis is a melee warrior with strong sustain, survivability, and adaptable crowd control.
He excels when facing enemies on his own terms. Surprise attacks can offer an incredible combo potential while healing himself in the process. The Dreadlord also does a great job of peeling for his teammates that may be vulnerable in the backline. Also, with the stopping power of both Fel Claws and Night Rush, he has plenty of options for halting heroes in their tracks.
However, Mal’Ganis is very vulnerable to healing reduction. For instance, Ana and her Biotic Grenade can easily suppress his health regain capabilities.
The Dark Lord said you would come! This is where your journey ends…boy. Trapped and freezing at the roof of the world, with only death to sing the tale of your doom!
