Once again Ben Brode and the rest of the Hearthstone team have brought us another single player adventure as well as all the cards that come with that. Production Director Jason Chayes and Game Director Ben Brode recently made an announcement video introducing the new cinematic trailer and also talking over some of the new cards and features they’re adding with Un’Goro.

However in response to the new trailer many hearthstone fans took to the Reddit and (Perhaps jokingly) complained that the trailer is just Elise Starseeker talking about the Un’Goro world and not the usual song or even just rhyme that has been in every other of the Hearthstone trailers and so this thread was made, which at the time of writing this article has around 7,500 up votes.
Ben Brode however as the great Game Director he is noticed this
and responded by making this song
which of course someone has put with the original cinematic trailer to make this
Anyway enough of that, what actually is Un’Goro?
Volcano is a 5-mana shaman spell with 2 Overload, which deals 15 damage randomly split amongst all minions. This is going to be great when an early game deck overwhelms you and you have no minions on the board.
Pyros is a 2 mana Mage Elemental card aimed at being like a resurrecting phoenix.
Verdant Longneck is a Druid 5 mana beast minion with a battlecry of “Adapt” and the first announced of the new “Adapt” feature.
Awaken the Makers
Awaken the Makers is a 1 mana Priest card, the first of the new type of “Quest” cards in which you have to Summon 7 Deathrattle minions to get the reward card of “Amara, Warden of Hope”. It is also a legendary card, we may see all future Quest cards being legendaries due to how powerful the reward is but time will tell as it has not yet been shown.
Amara, Warden of Hope
Amara, Warden of Hope is a 5 mana Priest Legendary minion with a battlecry of “Set your hero’s health to 40”. This card is uncollectible and is only accessible during a game by completing the Awaken the Makers Quest card. We could see some really exciting clutch plays with this card. There’s a possibility to form some new specialized Priest decks around this card similar to the Reno decks we’ve had for some time.
Although we’ve seen elementals in the game before such as the Shaman Earth Elemental Blizzard are now adding in the new minion type “Elemental”. We can expect there will be some new “Elemental” cards in the upcoming Un’Goro adventure. However, some existing cards will also be changing to this type. I imagine that some of the new cards in Un’Goro will be to do with “Elemental” deck synergy. So, we have that change of the meta to look forward to.
Here is a list of the cards that will change to the “Elemental” type:
Ragnaros the Firelord
Al’Akir the Windlord
Similar to the “Discover” function in the game currently this will give your minion a buff of your choosing. There are 10 possible buffs to choose from such as “+3 Attack”, “Windfury” and “Taunt”
The rest of the Adapt options can be found here – https://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Adapt
“Quest” is a brand new type of card which is similar to a secret in that when played it goes to the same place as a secret but different from a secret in that it is fully visible to your opponent. In the announcement video Chayes says the reason for this is that the “Potential things waiting for you at the end of the Quest are so powerful” so essentially I imagine they tested it being the same as secrets but it was too OP. I can’t wait to see other “Quest” cards in the upcoming adventure which will add a kind of mini-game aspect to hearthstone and could create some very fun meme decks. Whether there will be a big application of these cards in professional play however, we’ll have to wait and see how the meta plays out post the Un’Goro release.
Journey to Un’Goro will have 135 new cards when released. More information is due to be announced from March 17th onwards that I will cover in another article. Furthermore, the release of this adventure will mark the start of the new year for hearthstone, “The Year of the Mammoth” and we will be saying goodbye to the expansions of 2015, Blackrock Mountian, The Grand Tournament and League of Explorers but I will cover this in more detail in another article.
