Smash Bros Pro Leffen renews contract with TSM for two years

TSM Leffen Smash

The Super Smash Bros Godslayer is staying home. TSM confirms that William “Leffen” Hjelte will be extending his contract with the team for two more years.

TSM would break the news to their fans over Twitter, stating that they “are already extremely fortunate to have been able to work with such an incredible individual”. Leffen has been called many nicknames by the public, from Godslayer to Villain. He is still considered one of the best Melee players in the world, having just won EVO 2018 last August. Although his reputation as a villain has died down somewhat, he is still one of the most prominent figures in the Smash community. Right now, he is rank four in the SSBM Top 50, just behind Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma, Justin “Plup” McGrath and Adam “Armada” Lindgren.

Towards the Future with Leffen

Leffen would make a statement on TSM’s website, saying:

I’m very happy to be able to continue my career with TSM. When I joined back in early 2015 I was still starting out, and now 4 years later, a lot has changed. I’ve grown a ton as a competitor and content creator. Last year was one of my best years, finally getting that EVO win while also becoming a top player in a new game, DBFZ, while managing to grow my brand a lot through my stream and YouTube. However, one thing is still the same as it was back in 2015 – I want to be the best. Ever. It’s great to be able to continue to grow and strive for it with a team that shares my desire for greatness and also supports my vision in and outside of tournaments.

It is good to see that Leffen hasn’t lost his drive to become the best in the world. Additionally, that drive has also pushed him to become great at other games, like Dragonball FighterZ. He is actually the fourteenth best-ranked player in the world for DBFZ, which is astounding considering the time he’s put into it. Leffen also stated on his Twitter that two years in esports is a long time, which is also true.

Leffen has been on top of the Smash scene for quite some time. However, there have been many players who have fallen off in such a time period. His attitude and desire to win has kept him at peak competitive form for so long. We will need to watch and see if he can continue being one of the best players on the planet. The next tournament that he will probably be attending is GENESIS 6, which is set to kick off this February.
