The League of Legends Championship Series has announced Nerd Street Power Play as its last chance qualifier tournament.
Thanks to a partnership with Nerd Street Gamers, a company focused on esports infrastructure, this last chance qualifier now has a home. The tournament will be the final for League of Legends teams to qualify for the amateur circuit.
From Nerd Street Power Play to Proving Grounds
So far, several teams have already qualified for the upcoming Proving Grounds event. Both the Tier 2 and Tier 1 tournaments allowed players to duke it out to earn a spot. Teams also secured a qualification through the regular Academy season.
The Academy teams for Cloud9, Team Liquid, 100 Thieves, Immortals, FlyQuest and Dignitas will be competing in Proving Grounds. A few of the other teams that earned a place through the Tier 2 and Tier 1 events include No Org, SolaFide, TSM Academy and Zoos Gaming.
Currently, two remaining spots are left in the Proving Grounds circuit. After Nerd Street Power Play, the top 16 teams will clash against each other. The crown for the best amateur League of Legends team in North America will be on the line.
The Proving Grounds tournament itself was first announced as a rebooted version of NA Academy League back in Nov. 2020. According to the official League of Legends Championship Series post, community feedback was taken into consideration. Rules for the Tier 2 and Tier 1 tournaments were also listed in the post.
Mobalytics Esports also played a role in organizing these events. Its platform serves as the homepage for tracking the team and player standings in terms of top prospects and qualification points.
As for Nerd Street Power Play, it is scheduled to take place between March 22 and 25.
League of Legends fans can cheer for their favorite teams and players over on the official Nerd Street Gamers Twitch channel. The live broadcast will begin on Marc 22 at 6 PM ET.
