Joseph “Mang0” Marquez won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at The CLG Mixup on September 26. It was his first victory at a notable Melee netplay tournament.

Mang0 unsurprisingly swept through pools with a triad of 3-0 victories. In the process, he defeated Shayden Hendrickson, Anthony “Casper” Proano, and Alex “deft” Krafft. Mang0 continued this hot streak in top 32 with a 3-0 win over Anees “Free Palestine” Assaf.

Though he began to drop games in top 16, Mang0 still performed quite well toward the end of the bracket. He earned 3-1 victories against Kevin “PewPewU” Toy and Edgard “n0ne” Sheleby, earning himself a spot in Winners Finals. Finally, Mang0 faced Cody “iBDW” Schwab. He beat iBDW 3-2 in both Winners Finals and Grands, allowing him to claim 1st place at The CLG Mixup.

Other results from The CLG Mixup

IBDW’s road to 2nd place at The CLG Mixup came with many impressive wins. He reached top 8 on winners side following 3-0 wins against Ben Strandmark, Kevin “Bones” Emm, and Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni. IBDW also beat Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma twice, 3-2 in Winners Semis and 3-1 in Losers Finals.

Despite iBDW’s stellar performances at recent online tournaments, Mang0 has proven to be a bracket demon for him. Mang0 also double-eliminated iBDW at the Ludwig Ahgren Championship Series 2.

Though he has not yet matched his offline performances, Hungrybox has steadily improved since returning to online Melee events. On his way to top 8, he beat Logan “LSD” Dunn 3-0, Isaac “bobby big ballz” P. 3-2, and Zaid “Spark” Ali 3-1. Notably, both bobby big ballz and Spark have beaten Hungrybox at previous netplay tournaments. Hungrybox also defeated DaJuan “Shroomed” McDaniel 3-1 and SFAT 3-2, placing 3rd at The CLG Mixup.

Slippi Champions League qualifier

The CLG Mixup was also a qualifier event for the upcoming Slippi Champions League. Its two qualifier spots went to Shroomed and PewPewU, the highest-placing players who weren’t already invited. Shroomed and PewPewU will compete in Division 2 of the League when it begins on October 11.

Shroomed beat Eduardo “Eddy Mexico” Lucatero Rincón and Ryan “Traplord” Willard before Spark sent him to losers. Then, he eliminated Ben, David “Slowking” Fuentes, Johnny “S2J” Kim, and PewPewU, ultimately finishing in 5th place.

PewPewU placed 7th at The CLG Mixup. His run included wins over Miles “Soonsay” Foster, Avery “Ginger” Wilson, and Joey “Lucky” Aldama.
