MkLeo & Serge! win Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Doubles at GOML 2019

GOML 2019 Smash Ultimate finals

Leonardo “MkLeo” Lopez Perez and Sergio “Serge!” Balderas won Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Doubles at Get On My Level 2019 on May 17. Get On My Level is a Super Smash Bros. tournament series in Toronto, Canada. This event marks Smash Ultimate‘s first appearance at GOML.

MkLeo and Serge! lost to James “VoiD” Makekau-Tyson and Tyrell “NAKAT” Coleman back in Winners Quarterfinals. Once in the losers bracket, however, this pair defeated teams like Gavin “Tweek” Dempsey and Tyler “Marss” Martins, Larry “Larry Lurr” Holland and Elliot “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce, and Eric “ESAM” Lew and Jestise “MVD” Negron.

The team of MkLeo and Serge! won Grand Finals of GOML Smash Ultimate Doubles by taking two sets over Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada and Brian “Cosmos” Kalu. Between these two sets, MkLeo and Serge! only lost one game.

MkLeo played as Joker throughout the tournament. Joker from Persona 5 is Smash Ultimate‘s newest character, released on April 17, one month prior to GOML Smash Ultimate Doubles. Serge! primarily used Pokémon Trainer, although he also played as Roy in the Losers Finals set against ESAM and MVD.

MkLeo and Serge! both hail from Mexico, with many holding up MkLeo as one of the best Smash Bros. players for years. Serge! is a little-known competitor in comparison, although he has seen success in Mexico since Smash 4. GOML Smash Ultimate Doubles marks his first big performance at an international Smash Ultimate major.
