On Monday, Aug. 19, Call of Duty will join Gamescom’s opening night and make a special announcement. This new piece of information will show off new footage of Modern Warfare, but we don’t know from which section of the game.
While we’ve seen a ton of multiplayer, there are still several aspects of Modern Warfare that are unknown. Up to this point, there’s been no Campaign or Spec Ops gameplay or even information revealed. Could Gamescom’s opening night be time for this reveal, or could it be something else entirely?

Campaign and Spec Ops footage seem to be the most likely choices for this event. Both modes have already been announced, and Infinity Ward claimed gameplay was coming soon. However, as you can see in the above tweet, there will be new footage and a special announcement.
With Campaign and Spec Ops already announced, we could be getting two different reveals. In our eyes, there are two clear options. One is the unveiling of Modern Warfare‘s battle royale mode. While there’s been no confirmation, numerous inside sources claim the BR mode is close to completion and set for a 2020 free-to-play release.
This timeline would make sense for both Activision and Infinity Ward. Releasing the BR mode in early 2020 gives players enough time with Modern Warfare but also refreshes the game at a crucial point. It’s around February/March where things begin to get stale for any Call of Duty.
Though a battle royale reveal seems logical, another option is Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. Like with battle royale, a plethora of sources say that MW2 Remastered is complete and ready for launch.
Although, those sources say that the title won’t be released anytime soon due to financial reasons. So it seems unlikely given the circumstances, but there are only so many things this special announcement could be.
What do you think will be unveiled at Gamescom? Let us know in the comments below. Keep up with Daily Esports for all Call of Duty coverage.
