A poor performance

MVP qualified for the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) in 2016. This came after the team achieved 2nd in the 2016 Challengers Korea Spring Split Playoffs and defeated Kongdoo Monster during the Summer Split Promotion. Unfortunately, the team has never managed to attain any placements in the LCK’s upper half bracket. The closest was a 5th place result during the 2017 LCK Spring Split, but MVP lost to KT Rolster in the 2017 Spring Split Playoffs.

However, the team saw even worse results afterward, with an 8th place finish in the 2017 LCK Summer Split. MVP then placed second to last during the 2018 LCK Spring Split and repeated that result in the Summer Split, which sent them to relegation. While DAMWON Gaming was able to save themselves, MVP lost to Challengers Korea organization Team BattleComics, which was later acquired by SANDBOX Gaming.

An unoptimistic MVP

After relegation, MVP was sent back to Challengers Korea. There the team changed their entire roster, with some of the same coaching staff. However, the team placed 6th during the Spring Split and 7th at the Summer Split. With only 6 wins and 22 losses in total during the 2019 Season, the organization was most likely not optimistic about making it back to the LCK. As such, it is not worth the upkeep costs for little to no chance.

MVP still has teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, multiplayer online battle arena Honor of Kings / Arena of Valor, Overwatch Contenders, and PUBG. Will MVP ever return to League of Legends, or does the LCK have larger barriers now? Let us know about your opinion, and keep up with Daily Esports for all of your League of Legends coverage.
