Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams Mythic and eUnited met in the server last night during a best-of-one ESEA match. After the pick-ban process, the squads landed on Vertigo. Mythic ended up victorious over the former ESL Pro League team with a final score of 16-8.

The start of the match was shaky on Mythic’s side. There was a slight delay when Erik “fl0m” Flom had routing issues to the original match server. Due to the ping unbalance, the teams had to arrange to have the game reassigned to a new server. But once admins settled logistics, the teams were ready and set to play. There were no further issues throughout the match.

Mythic, as a team, played exceptionally well. Their recent performance showcased their growing synergy and ability to adapt to an opponent’s counterplay. Fl0m and Adam “Polen” Polen had strong ADRs against eUnited – 102.1 and 88.5, respectively. The entire team either broke even or had a positive K-D difference, showing that Mythic rarely lost a fight to eUnited’s players. Donovan “zNf” Froid ended his game with a 1.53 rating and 21-11 K-D. One of the most memorable plays from the game was his Deagle ace during their second-round force buy.

This continues the successes of Mythic’s recent performances, which have put the squad on a four-game win streak. They’re currently 2-0 in ESEA MDL. Moreover, they’ve been invited to FLASHPOINT‘s closed qualifier and earned a spot in the upcoming ESL One Rio 2020 closed qualifier. Last month, during WINNERS League, Mythic defeated eUnited 2-1 in a best-of-three game – an unexpected upset.

eUnited’s fall from grace

We can only infer as to why eUnited’s performance recently is lackluster. They’ve lost four out of five of their recent games – two to Mythic, one to Complexity, and one to Cloud9. While falling to organizations like Cloud9 and Complexity may not necessarily be representative of the team’s struggles, losing to Mythic is. The majority of Mythic’s roster has never competed in EPL before. Fans expect higher quality team play from an organization like eUnited against an MDL roster, mainly because they’ve only recently relegated due to the new EPL format.

Unless eUnited’s roster starts performing as they should, it’s not a far stretch to suggest that the organization may drop them soon. It’s not as easy as it was for a team to regain a position in EPL, and organizations are looking to support teams that perform consistently well. Only time will tell if eUnited will regain their form.
