Overwatch League Recap: San Francisco Shock beat the Hangzhou Spark

The third Overwatch League match of the last day of week three was deemed match of the week, but it ended normally. The San Francisco Shock beat the Hangzhou Spark 3-0-1.

Match of the week?

Fans of these two teams are both thinking one thing — is this team a challenger? In the Shock’s case, are they still good enough to challenge the Titans for the best team in the league? But in the Spark’s case, the stakes are even higher. Are they a team that peaked in the first week of stage one? Can they recover their fast start and make playoffs in the future? We don’t know those answers yet, but we do know these teams need to win. The analysts for the Overwatch League deemed this the match to watch this week, but it ended rather anticlimatically. The Spark weren’t as good of a team as the Shock were, and it was obvious in their play. The bright spots on the Spark were Xu “guxue” Qiulin and Kyeong-bo “GodsB” Kim.

A relatively clean sweep

Even with the pressure on their backs, the Shock didn’t miss a beat. They slipped a little with a draw, but they still got the sweep and technically didn’t lose a map. Their overall team play was off the charts, as to expect from the only team to challenge the Vancouver Titans in playoffs. Much like the Titans in today’s earlier match, while certain players stood out, the team was the true achievement. But out of all the Shock players, the ones that stood out were the off tank players Jay “sinatraa” Won and Hyo-bin “ChoiHyoBin” Choi. Both of them were clearly above the enemy players, putting out insane damage throughout the match.

The San Francisco Shock face the Philadelphia Fusion next after the Dallas home games. The Hangzhou Spark face the Chengdu Hunters in Dallas next.
