OWL Week 25

We have a little over a month left in the 2020 Overwatch League (OWL) season, and Week 25 was full of surprises, especially in the Asia matches. Here are some key takeaways from the weekend, as the season winds down to its final few weeks.

Can New York emerge from the Asia bracket?

It has been an up and down season for the New York Excelsior. They started off the 2020 OWL season strong, but after being relocated to Asia, they’ve had their share of struggles. After losing their last four games, they were able to pick up a big 3-0 win in Week 25 against the Guangzhou Charge.

If New York can continue improving their team chemistry with Hyo-jong “Haksal” Kim, they can easily be one of the strongest teams in the OWL. Right now in the Asia bracket, the Shanghai Dragons, the Guangzhou Charge, and the Seoul Dynasty have all shown a lot of promise. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

San Francisco, Philly, and Paris stay hot in North America

The top three finishers in the Summer Showdown continued to stay hot in Week 25. The San Francisco Shock beat the Florida Mayhem and the Vancouver Titans, the Philadelphia Fusion beat the Los Angeles Gladiators and the Toronto Defiant, and the Paris Eternal beat the Gladiators as well.

These three teams are all favorites to win in the North America Bracket. Currently, Philly is in second in the standings (behind Shanghai), San Francisco is in third, and Paris is in fifth. This sets the stage for an exciting finish in North America.

The OWL continues next weekend for Week 26. You can catch the games live on their official YouTube channel, or you can watch the videos later. Be sure to stay up to date with all the latest news and stories from Overwatch.
