Panasonic and Riot Games to bring LCS matches for viewing aboard flights

Wouldn’t it be cool to watch esports matches while flying? Well, thanks to a new partnership between Riot Games and Panasonic, that could soon become a reality. Riot, the company behind League of Legends, is aiming to bring LCS matches to airlines equipped with Panasonic’s in-flight entertainment systems.

Panasonic currently has over 300 airline customers utilizing its in-flight technology. This tech provides Wi-Fi, in-flight entertainment screens, and cabin systems. While it’s not known yet which of these airlines will be participating, it’s still pretty neat to have this offered. In the future, you might get to say that you watched an LCS match at 30,000+ feet. Furthermore, this could very well pave the way for viewing more esports on flights.

What exactly will be offered in-flight

According to Riot Games, League of Legends Championship Series and LCS Academy matches will be viewable in what they describe as a “near-live format.” The matches will be from the North American League of Legends competitions.

League of Legends continues to be one of the most popular titles in esports alongside Fortnite, Overwatch, and Apex Legends. Fans will surely enjoy having a match or two to watch during a long flight. Now, if only they could bring in-flight gaming to those entertainment systems. That would really be something.

Of course, several questions remain about this service. Which airlines will offer this? Will it only be available for North American flights? There’s also a matter of price – will participating airlines charge extra for viewing these matches, much like how they do with regular Wi-Fi? Additionally, Riot also owns Teamfight Tactics, plus the slew of other projects they announced last week – could any of these come to the service in the future?

Then there’s perhaps the most important question: do fans want this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
