The RLCS World Championships will finally return to Europe for the third time in eight seasons. Set to be held on Dec 13-15, the event will be hosted at the Palacio Vistalegre in Madrid, Spain. This is the same venue where the League of Legends Worlds quarter- and semi-finals will be held in October.
The announcement will come as good news for European fans, who have only had two RLCS World Championships in the last seven seasons. Season two was held in Amsterdam, while season five took place in London. All the other world finals were held in the United States.
While many expected the finals would be in France due to its more central location and the great amount of French top players, Psyonix opted for Madrid instead. The chosen location does, of course, depend on venue availability as well. It may also have something to do with a French law that would require all on-site commentary to be in French. This would have no effect on the English broadcast for viewers at home, but those at the venue would only have access to French casters. While the host and analysis are exempt from this, all other commentary would not be in English.
With the announcement, it looks like there’s a pattern in where the finals are held, going from US West to US East to Europe. We can expect, then, that RLCS season nine will take place in US West once more, while season ten will return to US East.
Tickets will be available soon, so make sure to keep an eye on the official Rocket League Esports Twitter for further announcements. In the meantime, you can check out the map of the area and start planning your trip to southern Europe.
League play begins on Oct 5 for North America and Oct 6 for Europe on both Twitch and Youtube. With the last seven majors having had a new winner, you definitely do not want to miss this season’s action and witness who crown themselves the next RLCS World Champion. The teams are all unbelievably close, and predicting the winner is like trying to eat soup with a fork. It cannot be done.
