Johnny “S2J” Kim won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at Training Mode Tournaments #4 on December 1. It marked his first victory at the weekly Training Mode Tournaments series.
The top eight seeds at this event received immediate byes into the final bracket. All other players competed in a matchmaking ladder, playing several sets throughout the day to secure spots in the bracket. Though it was not required of him, S2J still played in the West Coast matchmaking ladder. He went 12-1, losing to Gio “null” Rossi but beating Weston “Westballz” Dennis, among others.
S2J swept through much of the final bracket. In fact, he did not even drop a game until Winners Finals. This dominant run included wins over Isaac “NOOT” Blake, John “KoDoRiN” Ko, and Logan “LSD” Dunn. Next, S2J beat Avery “Ginger” Wilson 3-2 in Winners Finals. Finally, he rematched LSD in Grand Finals of Training Mode Tournaments #4, winning the set 3-1.

LSD had a phenomenal run to 2nd place at Training Mode Tournaments #4, scoring many upsets along the way. He made it to top 8 on winners side by defeating Westballz 2-1 and Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni 3-0. After dropping a set to S2J, LSD then went on a tear through the losers bracket. He eliminated Joey “Lucky” Aldama 3-2, Isaac “bobby big ballz” P. 3-2, and Ginger 3-1 before losing to S2J again.

After losing to Kyle Krudo, bobby big ballz took an early trip to the losers bracket. Nevertheless, he was able to make a solid run to 4th place. On the way to top 8, bobby big ballz defeated Christian “Kürv” Melendez, Joseph “JCubez” Isho, and KoDoRiN. From there, he won sets against SFAT and Jason “Gahtzu” Diehl.
Westballz won the West Coast matchmaking ladder at Training Mode Tournaments #4. He went 15-1, beating players like Kürv, null, and NOOT in the process. Meanwhile, Krudo won the East Coast matchmaking ladder. He went 12-1, suffering a surprising loss to Justin “DarkGenex” Cohen. Nevertheless, Krudo defeated players like Jorge “JAM” Martinez and Michael “Quiggles” Abu-halagah.
