San Francisco Shock, aiming for the thee-peat.

With a lot of trades and signings happening in the Overwatch League, the champions are looking for a three-peat. The San Francisco Shock have re-signed American main tank Matthew “Super” DeLisi. This followed earlier this week when the Shock announced four teammates also re-signing to the squad. Those four players are Hyo-bin “ChoiHyoBin” Choi, Nam-joo “Striker” Kwon, Minki “Viol2t” Park, and Myeong-hwan “smurf” Yoo. All these players are staying on the Shock, looking for the third championship win in a row.

The third dance

Ever since the San Francisco Shock joined the Overwatch League, they had a plan. Their first season would be rough, but the team got great prospects that grew into the roster. One of these prospects was Super, who started partway through the first season. He showed his potential in that small time, but the team was still mediocre. However, that second season, many different signings led the Shock into the top tier.

One of them was Striker, a specialist from the Boston Uprising. Another was someone they picked up partway through the inaugural season: ChoiHyoBin. His off-tank flexibility was key in many games. Vio2t was another amazing signing out of Korea, and got signed for season two. And lastly, a backup main tank for Super, which ended up being Smurf. No coincidence that all those players led the Shock to back to back championships. These re-signings show that the team truly believes that they can win a third one.

It’s not controversial to say that these re-signings are amazing, as they have proven their talents. The only question when it comes to this new Shock roster is if recently departed Grant “Moth” Espe will affect the team in this next season. We’ll just have to wait and see, but with their roster, it makes sense the Shock are one of the few rosters for 2021 that will stay almost exactly the same.
