San Francisco Shock Thunder Doomfist skin for OWL Season 2 Championship

Even in the midst of the Overwatch League’s delay, a long-awaited release is arriving. Back when the London Spitfire won the first Overwatch League championship, the Overwatch team created a special skin to honor them: the Winston pilot skin. It may have taken a bit longer this time, but the season two champions just got their own. Honoring the San Francisco Shock’s victory is a new skin for Doomfist, named “Thunder”.

This new skin will only be available from March 26 to April 9. Whether it will require tokens or not still remains unconfirmed, but you likely will need them.

Origin of the championship and MVP skins

The Spitfire’s inaugural season run shaped the Winston championship skin. “Flying Ace” Winston was a testament to the skills of their main tank, Jae-hee “Gesture” Hong, but the design focused even more on the team’s skill in the dive meta. That meta was very popular in the inaugural season.

Then, a year after winning the league’s first MVP, another skin arrived. This player-based surprise came from Sung-hyeon “JJoNak” Bang’s great inaugural season, giving us the rare octopus Zenyatta skin, aka “Zen-Nakji”.

The San Francisco Shock now continue this tradition with “Thunder” Doomfist.

However, when the second season finished with Jay “Sinatraa” Won named as the MVP, fans expected a skin for him as well. As of right now, we are still waiting. Sinatraa as a player didn’t have as popular a visual marker as JJonak did with his signature octopus, so there’s no telling what form such a skin could take. Additionally, the coronavirus might delay its release.

As well, the third season’s champions and MVP are far from being determined. Even with the third season of the league being delayed so early due to the coronavirus, Overwatch League matches are proceeding this weekend. For fans looking forward to the next championship or MVP, make sure to tune in and cheer your favorite player on.
