San Francisco Shock trade babybay to the Atlanta Reign

Not long after the Fuel/Uprising trade, another trade has come out for two contending teams in the Overwatch League. With star player Daniel “Dafran” Francesca retiring, the Atlanta Reign were on the hunt for either a starting DPS player or a flexible substitute. They seem to have found their match. The Reign have traded for DPS player Andrej “babybay” Francisty from the San Francisco Shock.

In general, this signing makes sense the more you think about it. With Dafran going back to streaming, Atlanta’s hitscan role was limited to only Ilya “NLaaeR” Koppalov. He didn’t see too much playtime in stage one of the Overwatch League and seems to be getting a shot in stage two. But they needed depth and skill, so they take a player who is getting no playtime in an extremely deep Shock roster in babybay. Even better, he has played with new Atlanta Reign teammate Dusttin “Dogman” Bowerman in the past, on the Contenders team Kungarna.

Filling the hitscan role

As a signing, this is smart. Babybay was considered a great DPS player that was unfortunate to be on a team that had a solidified starting lineup. He fills that hitscan role Atlanta needs. Plus, he has a chance to get some decent on-stage playtime again, having another opportunity to show his skill. The only worry is with how multicultural the roster is, but adding babybay smooths out the communication a bit having worked with other languages in the past.

On the San Francisco Shock’s side, they aren’t losing anything important. They had five DPS players, all good enough to start in the league. But with babybay leaving, that puts less pressure on the remaining DPS players to perform. That issue of five playable DPS players is more manageable as four, leaving New York Excelsior as the only team with five DPS players.

Time will tell if babybay can fill Dafran’s shoes, but this is his shot to play on stage and stay.
