Secretlab x Team Liquid chairs

Secretlab has announced a collaboration with Team Liquid to support the return of StarLeague 5 (TSL5). This announcement comes after the launch of their Team Liquid Edition gaming chair, where proceeds went to charity. Now, Secretlab and Team Liquid will also hold a special contest, giving the winner their special edition gaming chair. They will announce the winner during the final week of TSL5, which runs from May 16 to June 7.

8-year hiatus

“This has been a difficult period for everyone, and StarCraft players haven’t been spared,” stated Alaric Choo, co-founder of Secretlab. “Supporting TSL5 isn’t just giving back to the community, but also ensuring today’s players can continue doing what they love even in these tough times.”

TSL is returning from an 8-year hiatus for the fifth iteration of the tournament series. Participants from all over the world are taking their spots in double-elimination brackets, with hopes of getting into the Grand Finals. The tournament will see a total prize pool of $30,000.

TSL5 Contest

To celebrate its return, Secretlab and Team Liquid will host a special contest where the winner will receive a Team Liquid Edition chair. To win, players will challenge Liquid’s Dario “TLO” Wünsch in a game of “True or False.” They will vote on whether they agree or disagree with TLO’s predictions for upcoming matches. For each correct answer, players will earn more chances to win the prize in the end-of-tournament raffle.

Supporting StarCraft in the early days

Secretlab stated the effort to bring back TSL5 is a “Labor of Love.” Secretlab co-founders Ian Alexander Ang and Alaric Choo were former competitive StarCraft II players, as was Team Liquid founder Victor “Nazgul” Goossens.

Choo expressed the importance of this tournament during the pandemic, along with why they decided to move forward with it. “Being former Starcraft players ourselves, along with Victor, we know this inevitably translates to a loss in earnings and income for many of these players — hurting their livelihood.” The companies hope to bring the community together while providing a place where players can have fun and compete.

In addition, Team Liquid and Secretlab are collaborating on another charity project. They are hosting a CHAIR-ity stream with Make-A-Wish, raising funds to help fulfill gaming-related wishes. The stream will be hosted by Team Liquid this weekend, and all donations will go to the charity. Moreover, wish children will have a chance to participate in the stream alongside their favorite players.
