Tetris legend and seven-time world champion Jonas Neubauer has passed away at the age of 39. He died on January 4 according to Vince Clemente, a representative for the Classic Tetris World Championship.
Neubauer’s family confirmed the news in a message from his Twitter account on January 8. Currently, they have not shared detailed information about the cause of Neubauer’s death. However, the statement did reveal that he died of a “sudden medical emergency.”
It’s with a heavy heart that we deliver the terrible news that Jonas has passed away from a sudden medical emergency.
He was the absolute best. We are devastated, overwhelmed with grief, and we already miss him dearly.

The statement recognized Neubauer as a great “champ, role model, and friend.” Due to his dominance throughout the 2010s, Neubauer undoubtedly boasts the title of the best Tetris player of all time.
