Sparg0 wins Smash Ultimate Singles at Ultimate Naifu Wars #9

Edgar “Sparg0” Valdez won Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Singles at Ultimate Naifu Wars #9 on April 17. The online tournament was hosted by Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada, and entry was limited to subscribers of his Twitch channel.

Sparg0 reached top 64 by defeating players like Isaac “IceUnleashed” Torres and Rick “Rickles” Aguayo. His run continued with victories over Chris “PkChris” Marsalona, Colin “colinies” Landals, and Gabriel “Epic_Gabriel” Romero. With these wins, Sparg0 earned a spot in top 8 on winners side.

Sparg0 dropped into the losers bracket after a game five loss to “Sonix” in Winners Semis. After a pair of 3-0 wins over Enrique “Maister” Hernández Solís and Epic_Gabriel, Sparg0 got the chance to rematch Sonix. This time, Sparg0 won 3-0, allowing him to advance into Grand Finals. Sparg0 beat Spencer “BestNess” Garner 3-2 in both sets of Grand Finals to become the Ultimate Naifu Wars #9 champion.

Though he has less of a presence offline, Sparg0 is renowned for his skill in online play. He currently ranks No. 15 on the Wi-Fi Warrior Rank v4. In March, Sparg0 placed 1st at two major online tournaments, Lag Spike: Mafia Madness and Mazer Gaming Smash.

Other results from Ultimate Naifu Wars #9

BestNess continued his streak of solid Wi-Fi performances with a run to Grand Finals on winners side. Along the way, he beat Brett “8BitMan” Esposito, Jeffrey “ATATA” Solberg, and Brian “Benny&TheJets” Navarro. BestNess also took sets off of Ezra Samsora Morris and Sonix in top 8.

Sonix showed off the power of Wi-Fi Sonic with his run to 3rd place at Ultimate Naifu Wars #9. He made it into Winners Semis after defeating Emeka “Mekos” Anazia, Robin “RobinGG” Gronau, and Angel “tAngelt” Nunez. In addition, Sonix was the only person to take a set off of Sparg0 throughout the whole tournament.

Epic_Gabriel’s 4th place finish came with upsets over some of the best offline Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players in the world. He defeated Ryan “Ravenking” McDonough and Leonardo “MkLeo” Lopez Perez before falling to Sparg0. Epic_Gabriel then eliminated Toriano “Toast” Warren, tAngelt, and Samsora before losing again to Sparg0.

Of all the players to make top 8 at Ultimate Naifu Wars #9, tAngelt was definitely the most surprising. He made it all the way to Winners Quarters beating Yezre’el “Yez” Askew, Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma, and Brian “Cosmos” Kalu. Then in the losers bracket, tAngelt eliminated Grayson Ramos.
