Team Liquid has officially announced that popular League of Legends color caster Josh “Jatt” Leesman will be coaching alongside Jun “Dodo” Kang. After a disappointing League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) Spring Split, the team looks to dominate the off-season with changes to both the roster and coaching staff.

Just last week Team Liquid released star player Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng from the starting roster. Doublelift was replaced by 19-year-old Edward “Tactical” Ra who has previously been on TL Academy. The next move for the team has been acquiring Jatt, who has floated around the League of Legends scene for nearly a decade. He started his career as the jungler for Dignitas in 2011 and then moved to become a caster shortly after. Last year Jatt announced he would be taking a break from casting to work as a game designer for League. He spent a few months game designing before eventually making his way back to being an analyst again in 2020.

Team Liquid’s struggles

Team Liquid had previously been two-time back-to-back champions in the LCS before missing the playoffs last split. With two world champions on their roster, as well as a world-renowned jungler, the team seemed to be invincible. Unfortunately, individual motivation and team conflict turned them into a bottom-tier team. Team Liquid finished 9th in the 2020 Spring Split with seven wins and 11 losses. This was the first time that a back-to-back champion team had missed playoffs in LCS history.

Jatt to the rescue

In his announcement video, Jatt shared some of his thoughts on how he can improve Team Liquid: “I think overall the story of Summer Split should hopefully be redemption and it can hopefully move them towards more.” This comment came after he expressed his excitement for getting to work with the team. He then went on to say how he believes TL can win the LCS again: “I think people often take for granted how difficult it can be to win an LCS Split, and I think Liquid is still capable of doing that.”

Overall Jatt had positive things to say about Team Liquid and the direction they’ll be headed in for summer. With the addition of Tactical on the team, hopefully Liquid can regain that eye of the tiger.
