The Teamfight Tactics’ Galaxies Pass event is in full swing and one of the latest missions has people stumped. The True Damage Specialist mission requires players to deal 200,000 true damage to enemy units. There are only a few ways of dishing out true damage in Teamfight Tactics. Fortunately for you, we know just how to do it.
The Void Comp
The easiest way to complete this mission is by having all three Void champions on the field. This triggers the Void class synergy which turns all damage from basic attacks and special abilities into true damage. Vel’Koz, Kha’Zix, and Cho’Gath are the units players will want to look out for during the buying and carousel phases.
We suggest teaming the Void units up with the Mech Pilot champs, Annie, Fizz, and Rumble, to form some powerful combinations. Throw in another Sorcerer, like Ahri (more on her in the next section), and another Infiltrator, like Kai’Sa, to get some extra class synergy for a very well-rounded team.
If the RNG isn’t on your side, there are a few other ways to make some progress towards your True Damage mission.
Ahri’s Orb of Deception
In Set 3 of Teamfight Tactics, Star Guardian Ahri is one of the only champions that natively deals true damage through her special ability, Orb of Deception. Ahri’s ability works like this:
Fires an orb in a 4-hex line, dealing 175 / 250 / 375 (*AP) magic damage to all enemies it passes through. The orb then returns to her, dealing 175 / 250 / 375 (*AP) true damage to all enemies it passes through.
The Orb of Deception will only deal true damage on the return. You want to place Ahri an angle to maximize the number of units her Orb can hit, but also keep her behind a beefier champion so she doesn’t die before she can use her spell.
While Ahri won’t complete the mission for you, she’ll definitely help.
True damage items
If the carousel or RNG aren’t helping you build the Void composition you need, don’t worry. Teamfight Tactics has two fairly common items that also deal true damage. These items are Red Buff and the Morellonomicon. You have to craft both items, but they do share a piece of recipe equipment.
The Red Buff gives the equipped champion a passive that burns any enemy unit for ten seconds. This burn deals true damage equal to 2.7% of the target’s maximum health. It also applies the Grievous Wounds status effect, which decreases healing effect by 50%. Crafting Red Buff requires players to have:
- Chain Vest
- Giant’s Belt
You want to slap this bad boy on your tankiest and highest survivability frontline units. Not only will the innate stats make the champion even harder to kill, your frontliners tend to spend most of the battle fighting other beefy champions. This will give you the highest possible return on the 2.7% maximum health true damage.
If you’d prefer to equip the Red Buff on a backline hero, look to place it on powerful or high attack speed marksmen like Ashe, Caitlyn or Xayah. Furthermore, combining the Red Buff with Runaan’s Hurricane will place the true damage tick on multiple enemies at once. This should get you some good progress towards your mission in each fight.
The other item that gives a true damage bonus is the Morellonomicon. It’s basically the AP version of the Red Buff. When the equipped unit deals damage with a Special Ability, the Morellonomicon applies a burn to the damaged enemies for ten seconds. The burn deals true damage each second and also applies the Grievous Wounds status effect. To craft the Morellonomicon, players will need:
- Needlessly Large Rod
- Giant’s Belt
The Morellonomicon works well on Rumble, which is great for the Mech Pilot team suggested earlier. His special ability, Flamesplitter, deals damage over a wide cone and already reduces healing abilities by 80%.
