Berjaya Dragons League of Legends PCS

The Berjaya Dragons announced today that they are the 10th League of Legends team to participate in the upcoming Pacific Championship Series (PCS). The event is set to start Feb. 8 and will feature 10 teams from the Pacific region. The first nine teams were revealed several weeks ago, but one spot had been unannounced until now.

The Berjaya Group joins the League of Legends scene

The company behind the new League of Legends team is none other than the Berjaya Group. The Berjaya Group holds control over the Berjaya Corporation, one of Malaysia’s biggest companies. Berjaya has control over large aspects of Malaysia’s economy. The company is involved in things such as consumer marketing, property development, and various automobile and financial institutions. Besides this, the group specializes in gaming and lottery management. In total, the company has over 16,000 employees and assets worth approximately $5 billion.

A major step for Malaysian esports

The investment from a corporation of this size is monumental for the Malaysian esports scene. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan, founder and executive chairman of the Berjaya Dragons, had this to say about the announcement of the new esports team:

As a competition that requires high mental focus, esports is now an inevitable world trend which motivates thousands of youths to challenge their mental capabilities. Therefore, our first step into the fray with the formation of an esports team plays an essential role towards the development of the esports industry. I hope we can build a healthy ecosystem to nurture talented individuals, and promote the growth of the industry with our participation.

The announcement further explained that the Berjaya Dragons roster will be revealed soon. With the money and status that is to come with the new organization, we might finally find out where the former bot laner of Invictus Gaming (IG), Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo, will end up. After his departure from IG back in November, there are rumors of his going to various different corners of the world. Some of these rumors include playing for one of the new PCS teams.
