“Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who is the fairest one of all?” That line has been repeated in history through the Snow White fairy tale. And now… we have the actual mirror in Throne of Eldraine spoilers! Let’s check out this awesome new MTG Arena card: The Magic Mirror.
The first thing that really stands out about Magic Mirror is its insane 9 mana casting cost. Luckily, the first ability on this legendary artifact makes it cheaper to cast for each instant and sorcery in your graveyard. This should serve to make Magic Mirror actually castable.
Once it’s on the battlefield, The Magic Mirror immediately makes it to where you have no maximum hand size. Usually, you can only have 7 cards in hand at the end of your turn, but this removes that rule. In addition to that, Magic Mirror will progressively draw you more cards as the game goes on. This is nice, as drawing cards is probably the strongest thing you can do in the game. However, you’ve got to have a plan to win the game quickly as, eventually, you will be drawing your entire deck. That, typically, is lethal.
The biggest combo in Standard that this card has is almost certainly with Jace, Weilder of Mysteries. If The Magic Mirror is out long enough, it will draw your entire deck, which wins you the game as long as Jace is on the battlefield! This is pretty risky, but we already have decks in Standard that win this way, so it’s not too much of a stretch. It’s also worth noting that the proliferate mechanic from War of the Spark has synergy with the counters on The Magic Mirror.
The Magic Mirror is a cool reference to Snow White and an even cooler card! Whether it sees Standard play is yet to be seen, but it certainly is a powerful new legendary artifact for MTG Arena decks. If you want to keep up to date on MTG Arena news and spoilers, check out our MTG news page.
