Tokido wins latest CPT Premier Event at Tokyo Game Show

Tokyo Game Show CPT Premier Event Tokido

For the last few days, Japan’s Makuhari Messe has been host to the annual Tokyo Game Show, a convention geared towards new release games and hardware. It’s also a stop on the Capcom Pro Tour as a premier event.

Shock domestic violence allegations against Panda Global’s Infiltration last week saw him pulled from the competition last-minute. He has consequently dropped from 7th place to 8th in the Capcom Pro Tour standings with 1600 points just three months out from 2018’s Capcom Cup.

Another surprise upset was FAV Gaming’s Sako, being knocked out in the first round by Australian superstar RoF of ORDER. Sako is now sitting in 4th place, previously 3rd, on 2141 points. This makes way for EVO 2018 winner, Problem-X of Mousesports, to rise into 3rd.

Ultimately, the weekend went to Echo Fox’s Tokido, backing up teammate Justin Wong’s win at Dreamhack Montreal two weeks ago. Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi fought his way back from the loser’s bracket, taking out some tough opponents including UYU Oil King, Ghost NuckleDu, and Liquid Nemo. He went on to take an impressive 3-0 win against Cygames Beast’s Fuudo to earn himself a grand final reset. Fuudo looked stunned and confused going into the reset, whilst Tokido — eyes closed on stage — looked focused and brought an A-game reflecting his determination.

Tokido’s Akuma continued to dominate Fuudo’s R. Mika, with a response ready for everything Fuudo threw at him. After six straight wins, including a perfect run, Tokido is the Tokyo Game Show Street Fighter V winner for 2018. This leaves him at the top of the Capcom Pro Tour leaderboard for now with 3191 points. There are only four premier events to go before the Capcom Cup 2018 in Las Vegas this December.
