Meteos Levi 100 Thieves

UPDATE 7/4/2018: Meteos has posted his perspective on the situation on his Youtube.

Yesterday, William “Meteos” Hartman would send out a now-deleted tweet that says he was traded by 100 Thieves to FlyQuest.

However, not a lot of information was given afterward until today. We now have more information to go off of as 100 Thieves recently posted a tweet regarding the roster. They say that Meteos gave a request for a trade last week. 100 Thieves has had pretty good success for their first year in the NA LCS. Last split, they were able to place first in the regular season and won second place in the playoffs. This year they are atop the standings with a 4-2 record. However, 100 Thieves states that there has been a lack of cohesion between the players and coaching staff. They have apparently been dealing with these problems for a while now, and have not been able to fix them. This is why they would eventually trade for a new jungler in Andy “AnDa” Hoang.

They also state that they told Meteos about the trade, and he was able to discuss things with FlyQuest as well. This goes against the narrative that Meteos did not know about the trade. This news comes after 100 Thieves’ announcement stating that they would be benching Meteos and Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho for their Academy jungler and top laner Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh and top laner Brandon “Brandini” Chen for Rift Rivals 2018.

The Future of 100 Thieves and Meteos

100 Thieves now have a choice to make with their roster. They need to decide which combination of players will most benefit the team in a mechanical sense and in a chemistry sense. They are able to lock in their bottom lane with team leader Zaqueri “aphromoo” Black and bottom lane carry Cody “Cody Sun ” Sun. However, due to them trading Meteos, a North American jungler, they now have three imported players on the roster, which is not legal.

This gives 100 Thieves a difficult choice to make. Their top lane Ssumday has been very important in their successes as of late. He is possibly top two in his position in the region. However, they have chosen to bench him for this upcoming Rift Rivals. On the other hand, their mid laner Yoo “Ryu” Sang-wook has not been playing exceptionally well this season. Although only in the third week of the LCS, he would tie for most deaths amongst North American mid laners. If you compare Ryu’s impact to that of Ssumday, it is easy to see who many would pick for the team.

Levi

There’s also Levi, who has been playing with the 100 Thieves Academy team. It seems like 100 Thieves will be using AnDa as their starting jungler for week four, but Levi will probably be replacing him after Rift Rivals. There are a few questions surrounding Levi. When 100 Thieves acquired the Vietnamese jungler, fans were excited as he has shown incredible potential in 2017 at MSI and Worlds. However, his English needs some work to help mesh with his teammates. We will also need to see if his 2017 success can translate to this year. Will be able to perform just as well in such a competitive region like North America? His play in the LCS Academy has left something to be desired, although it is early in the season.

On the other hand, Meteos’ status is now in limbo, as FlyQuest does not need a starting jungler. They have a new jungler in Santorin, and Meteos explicitly says he does not want an Academy role. This would technically leave Meteos teamless, until we find out his decision and thoughts when he releases a video on his perspective tonight.
