2021 will be Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary, which surely means exciting things are coming for the franchise. While there’s the one big thing everyone is hoping to see, there are plenty of other possibilities as well.
Here’s what we hope to see in the coming year, and what seems the most likely to happen.
Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary
We likely won’t hear much of anything about plans for the 25th Anniversary until Pokémon Day on February 27. Until then, all we can do is speculate with what we know. So, here’s what we’re hoping to see.
Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, & Platinum remakes
Players have been anxiously awaiting these remakes ever since the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire remakes way back in 2014. It’s now officially seven years later in 2021, and there is still no word on them. Expect that to change, however, this year. Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary would be the perfect time for such a big release.
Pokémon Sleep, Pokémon Snap 2, and Pokémon Unite
These are all games that have already been announced and are likely in production. Pokémon Sleep is a mobile title that will work similar to Pokémon GO, but instead of walking, you power up Pokémon through sleeping. Pokémon Snap 2 is a Nintendo Switch title and the sequel to the hit Nintendo 64 game. Pokémon Unite is a MOBA (like League of Legends) but with Pokémon as characters.
Virtual Console games for the Nintendo Switch
Players without a Gameboy Advance or some form of Nintendo 3DS cannot play older Pokémon games anymore without getting an outdated console or using an emulator. It would be great to relive these games via Virtual Console on the Nintendo Switch. This could also help players fill out their Pokémon Home Pokédex as well if the Virtual Console titles had compatibility with Home.
There’s always the chance that we get all of these and more! Be sure to stay tuned for all the upcoming news during Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary.
