Turkish esports media site, Esporin, would report the news earlier today. Earlier this month, Wolf would leave SK Telecom T1 alongside multiple members in a roster revamp by the team. His longtime ADC partner, Bae “Bang” Jun-sik, would end up joining 100 Thieves over in North America. The four other players have not found a team for the upcoming season, except for Park “Thal” Kwon-hyuk, who has gone on to join Hanwha Life Esports.
Wolf has one of the most decorated histories of any support in the world. He is a three-time Worlds finalist, with two championships under his belt. Also, he is a four-time LCK champion with SKT T1, as he was apart of the most dominant run in League of Legends history. The support also has two Mid-Season Invitational titles to go with the numerous championships as well. Many would consider him and Bang as one of the best bottom lane duos in the world, for quite a long time.
However, 2018 would prove to be a tough year for not just Wolf, but all of SKT T1. The perennial World Champions would first suffer an early exit in the 2018 Spring Split playoffs at the hands of KT Rolster. The next season, SKT would fall even further, placing seventh in the LCK. They would win enough championship points to earn themselves a spot in the Regional Gauntlet. However, their last-ditch effort to make it to Worlds would be in vain. SKT would end up losing to Gen.G, marking the first year ever that the organization would fail to make Worlds.
As a direct result of SKT’s recent failures, the organization would fully revamp the roster from the ground up. They would spare no expense to rebuild around superstar mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. It was pretty clear that if the team did not find Faker suitable help in the offseason, he would have no choice but to leave. As we said, SKT would drop seven players from the team, including Bang and Wolf. They would end up building a new super team in the LCK, gathering a plethora of star free agents alongside the Unkillable Demon King.
Wolf now joins Bahçeşehir SuperMassive, who has been the best team in the Turkish League of Legends scene for some time. Although they have not had many successful runs at Worlds, they have been constantly at the tournament. Alongside Wolf will be Asım Cihat “fabFabulous” Karakaya, Furkan “Stomaged” Güngör and Berkay “Zeitnot” Aşıkuzun. They were once home to former stars, like Lee “GBM” Chang-seok and current KT Rolster support, No “SnowFlower” Hoi-jong.
All in all, the news took many fans by surprise. People believed that Wolf would go overseas, but not to Turkey. Turkey has never been a strong region, and so Wolf heading there seems to be a bad decision from his standpoint unless there weren’t any offers from other organizations to begin with. However, if he does decide to go to SuperMassive, we wish Wolf the best of luck with his new team.
